Claudio Kron do Brazil - Percussionist
Claudio is a world-renowned Brazilian artist, born in Bahia, whose life and work bridges continents, cultures, and generations.

Claudio’s work is also profoundly connected to Brazil’s Indigenous heritage. Through extensive research and collaboration with the Tupinambá and Pataxó peoples, he draws inspiration from their ancestral rhythms, spiritual practices, and oral traditions, integrating these elements into his compositions, workshops, and performances. This connection allows him to celebrate Brazil’s rich, layered cultural identity while fostering respect, understanding, and cross-cultural dialogue.

About the Timbau
The timbau, timbal, timba — these are all names for this fabulous instrument. I like to say the timbau is a not-so-distant cousin of the West African djembe. The difference is that one is a “meat eater,” carved from a tree trunk and traditionally using cow skin for its head, while the other is “vegan,” made from plywood and a plastic head. That’s the timbau: very light and incredibly loud. Originating from the traditional Afro-Brazilian caxambu drum in Salvador, Bahia, the timbau became popular in Brazil in the 1980s with the creation of samba-reggae by Neguinho do Samba — a style born to give Black people from the outskirts and peripheral communities greater access to music and cultural expression.
